Yesterday, July 10th, the crew joined by Ted Alway and Adam Schneider, surveyed their second peak of the season, Small Fortune Peak. Located just near Fortune Peak surveyed last week at 786 feet lower, we found greater diversity with 52 species observed.

Among these discoveries, was a large abundance of Chaenactis thompsonii, a species that is rare and unique to the Wenatchees. In addition, the geology consisted of ultramafic rocks containing very low levels of silica content. The peak had a distinctive and striking iron stripe overall resulting in highly varied rock type on this peak.

It was a hot day, but overall a great addition to this year's peaks and we enjoyed the opportunity to be accompanied by others!
