Last week, the 50 Peaks Team made their way to the North Cascades to sample Middle Tiffany Mountain and Clark Peak. They backpacked to Honeymoon Pass, where they spent the night and hiked up Middle Tiffany Mountain the following day. The trip was a total of 6 miles and 2,000 ft elevation gain. This peak differed from past peaks this summer because it was a larger area to cover; overall, there were 65 species present. Dominant species included Cherleria biflora, Erigeron compositus, Carex spp. and Saxifraga austromontana!
The following day, the team headed to the Freezeout Trailhead to hike up Clark Peak. Clark Peak was also quite a large area and left the team with 60 species observed. Among the 60 species, the most common were Eremogone capillaris, Antennaria lanata, Carex spp., and Penstemon procerus. The trip was 8 miles and an elevation gain of 2,100 ft. The trip to Middle Tiffany Mountain and Clark Peak were the 9th and 10th peaks accomplished this summer! This week, the 50 Peaks Team will be surveying Chinook Peak in Yakima County, Washington.
