On August 24th, Brielle, Sophia, and David sampled Chinook Peak in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest on the border of Mt. Rainier National Park. The hike was 4.76 miles out and back ascending 1,608 feet to the summit at 6904 feet. At the peak we observed 56 species in total with Juniperus communis, Poa secunda, Antennaria microphylla, and Penstemon procerus common. We observed a few typically sub-alpine plants including Pinus albicaulis, Callitropsis nootkatchensis, and Ribes acerifolium becoming established in the alpine area of the peak.

This week, the 50 Peaks Team will sample its final peak of the season, coming to a total of 12 peaks.
