About the Project

The 50 Peaks Project at the University of Washington Herbarium, Burke Museum was initiated in 2021 by David Giblin. The primary goals of this 5-year effort are to 1) improve knowledge of the diversity and distribution of alpine vascular plants of the Cascade Range; 2) document new populations of rare plant taxa; 3) provide baseline data for future alpine plant community studies; and 4) create field- and collections-based research opportunities for undergraduate students.

The field component of the project concluded in 2025, after sampling a total of 55 peaks.  Future research efforts will include the establishment of GLORIA long-term monitoring plots.
